This intimate gesture is deeply symbolic of integration. Who or what is being kissed, portrays a movement toward acceptance and union. Commonly a woman will kiss a beast during monumental stages in her development: puberty, empowerment and menopause. She is connecting with those aspects of her body that feel beyond her control. When she is integrating the Shadow or Animus in a movement toward empowerment, she may first encounter 'her power' as a monster that kisses her. A man may kiss a young girl as a way of embracing the birth of his sensitivity or Anima.
